Virtual Production Explained

3D virtual production is a central technology within the current age of digital technology revolutionising areas as diverse as gaming, industrial design, medicine, air and sea transport, architecture, education, entertainment and globalisation. The purpose of this book is to ‘de-mystify’ a complex subject – 3D virtual production – and to make it understandable for beginners with some introductory background as mediated by the specific research content.

We discuss basics like splines, planar curves, surfaces of revolution, quadric surfaces, and regular polyhedra. We look at animations of the four regular solids. We cover the basics of popular graphical software programs, such as Blender, Maya, and 3ds Max. We teach basic geometric concepts: points, lines, planes, and faces. We explain how to make 3D objects look more realistic through texturing, lighting and animation.

And here’s why: we’re going to show you the tools and systems you can use to grow your business efficiently and quickly produce professional, amazing-quality results. This includes practical examples explaining what to do and what not to do, so you don’t end up spending time on developing methods that won’t help your practice.

By the end you will have all the information and skills you need to succeed in the burgeoning field of 3D virtual production. This book is a work in progress.

The Use of Motion Design in Journalism

Motion Graphic plays a crucial role in how information is presented in the new age of digital journalism because of its capacity to convey information quickly and effectively. This book illustrates how Motion Design is being used in digital journalism and how it can be leveraged to better tell the story.

Through reading it, they will find out of what animations are available for journalists and editors to create animated stories, their applications, and how to stick with audiences. Geared towards captivating — and retaining — audiences, various types of animations with messages are featured: explanatory animations, animated infographics, etc.

Examples of actual animations applied to news reports, data analysis and field stories are also included in the book to illustrate how commonly available tools and techniques can be applied in a journalistic environment.

As of this book’s end, the reader’s grasp of the critical function of animation in digital journalism, and the practical skillset with which to animate and use animation in public service, will be complete. Note for the reader: This book is unfinished yet.
